Spirit Guards, The Grand Palace, Bangkok

  • Changing of the Guard, The Grand Palace, Bangkok
  • Exterior of the Dusit Throne Hall (left), originally built in 1784.  It is one of the finest examples of Rattanakosin (Bangkok) architecture. Called Throne Hall because the form of a window in the south wing is of a throne.  The Hall is used for the annual Coronation Day celebrations.

  • The cho fa, which means tassle of air, is the most recognizable Thai architectural detail.  it is the gold curved shape adorning the corner of the roof.  Its shape is thought to derive from a fierce bird featured in Hindu mythology.
