  • At Wat Traimit (Temple of the Golden Buddha), Bangkok, sits the solid gold Buddha which contains 5.5 ton of gold and stands 15 feet high and is 12 feet 5 inches in diameter. It was cast in the 13th. century and is in the Sukhothai style.
  • Adjacent to the Wat Phra Kaeo (temple of the Emerald Buddha) at the Grand Palace complex, Bangkok, is the Wat Pho (Temple of the Reclining Buddha). <br />

Established in the 16th. century, it is the oldest and largest temple complex in Bangkok. The huge gilded Buddha reclines on its elbow. His joyous passing is represented by the reclining position and the languid, ecstatic smile on his face.
